A Physical Explanation of Quantum Tunnelling

DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.21303246 · Open access · CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 · Zenodo

Quantum tunnelling lets particles cross barriers that classical energy accounting forbids. The mathematics predicts the rates precisely; the physical mechanism is left unexplained.

This paper explains tunnelling through the deformation dynamics of a physical substrate: the deformation field of a particle extends beyond the barrier, and transmission follows with the observed exponential dependence on barrier width and height.
