For nearly a century the standard explanation for why almost every galaxy appears to recede from us, faster with distance, has been that space itself is expanding. BFUT Paper 1 proposes instead that this pattern reflects gravitational sorting dynamics in an infinite universe, the same mechanism already observed directly in the solar system: early planetesimals occupied every orbital plane and inclination, and after approximately 100 million years of collisions, mergers, and ejections of objects on intersecting orbits, the surviving planets settled onto the coplanar, aligned orbits observed today. This is settled science, not a hypothesis, and the identical selection principle, intersecting trajectories eliminated by gravity over time, is scale-independent, following from Newtonian gravity alone whether it operates at galactic scales over cosmological timescales or at planetary scales over hundreds of millions of years. An N-body simulation of 200 galaxies reproduces a correlation of r equals 0.675 with 84 percent of galaxies receding, independently verified via a t-statistic of 12.87, a result that would occur by chance with probability under 0.001 [P1].
