Orchestrated Objective Reduction
Also called: Orch-OR
A speculative theory of consciousness proposed by physicist Roger Penrose and anaesthesiologist Stuart Hameroff, which holds that consciousness arises from quantum computations occurring within microtubules inside brain neurons. It remains a minority position, and most neuroscientists consider the brain too warm and noisy for the specific quantum coherence the theory requires to be sustained meaningfully.
